This story has biblical undertones, the mother esday be seen as Jesus because she puts everyone else needs ahead of hers and works to make everyone else life around her better, while leaving hers on the back burner. The narrator looks at the kids in the class bues that Sonny was once one of these children on the tough streets of Harlem.

After being released from prison, Sonny desperately tries to break free from his ways and uses music to do so but he has doubts about using music to do it because he used drugs while playing but music claims him.

Literary Analysis: Sonny’s Blues
Most of his life he wants nothing to do esxay him because he cannot understand him. The tone of the story was compassionate and caring. Unfortunately this is a reoccurring problem with sibling, especially with the older sibling. The conclusion of the story ends with the narrator finally going to see his brother play at a club that he previously invited him to.

Sonny was determined to leave Bluues behind, unlike his brother who stayed to become a teacher and has a family. The overall analysis of this story is based on family values and struggle.
Surprisingly enough, this argument is what brings them together and allows the narrator to get to know Sonny and learn that he never really knew who his brother was. Baldwin was well aware of this and chose his hometown for these reasons.
